Regional Arts New South Wales
Regional Arts New South Wales is a non-government, not for-profit organisation
dedicated to improving rural people's access to arts and culture and
to assisting community cultural development in regional NSW.
It is the oldest arts organisation in Australia and the largest volunteer
arts organisation in the country, with a volunteer network of over 100
local arts councils and 11 regional committees across rural New South
Wales.
It runs an office in Sydney and employs Regional Arts Development Officers
(RADOs) in 5 regions. Four other RADOs are employed by regional boards
affiliated with Regional Arts NSW.
Regional Arts NSW assists cultural
development in the following ways:
- Regional Arts Development Officers:
Regional Arts NSW establishes and supports these professional positions
which receive funding from state and local government. They work with
regional boards, local government and community groups to develop
programs for town design, public art, cultural tourism and festivals.
- Dorothy Helmrich Award:
Regional Arts NSW provides an annual award for local government in
recognition of its contribution to the arts in local communities.
- Country Arts Support Program:Regional
Arts NSW provides grants to community organisations to employ
professional artists for locally initiated projects.
- Publications and Resources:
Regional Arts NSW produces a number of publications of
interest to both groups and individuals.
- Local Arts Councils:
the state body services and supports a state-wide network of independent
volunteer Arts Councils, which in turn organise a wide range of arts
activities. Information on how to form an Arts Council can be obtained
by calling Greg Snook.
- Training: Regional
Arts NSW assists local groups with project development, and
promotion through provision of workshops, seminars and conferences.
- Performances: Regional
Arts NSW works closely with an associated organisation, Arts
On Tour, to supply financial support and information on touring companies
to local Arts Councils and other community groups.
